In 2017 we bought some new land for the school. This land is next to the old one.

The intention was initially to secure the option to expand our school by owning land in the neighbourhood. Soon, however, plans were made to do something productive with this land. We decided to set up a corn plantation. Corn is an easy to grow crop that requires little maintenance. Harvesting can be done twice a year if sowing in the right period. The school can sell the corn, or partly keep them for food.

Only one year later we also have plantain trees and cocoa trees on our land. The plantain trees give fruits in a short time, the cocoa trees are rather a long-term investment since they have to grow for at least 5 years before they actually give fruits.

This is another big step towards self-reliance!
