Self-sustainability
As you could read in our vision statement on the “About Us” page, one of our biggest goals is to make the school self-sustaining. This means that we are now helping them with the intention that they will eventually be able to pay for all costs themselves and therefore no longer need our help. Because a school in itself has little income, we have chosen to start some additional activities that generate money. These money can then be used to keep the school running. In this way we can keep the costs for the children as low as possible and continue to offer everyone the chance of a decent education.
Especially the farm and the shop generate money in Asuadei. In addition, Emelia only does small activities depending on the season. For example, she will also sell school supplies at the start of the school year and she occasionally works with some women from the village to sell local delicacies.
