Water supply

Water is life!!!

In the first years, the school was supplied with water by a few women who walked daily with large bowls to the well in the village. This not only took a lot of time, but it is also quite heavy work. In addition, the well was not always sufficient to provide everyone with water during the dry season. So we wanted to provide running water at the school as quickly as possible, preferably with a filter system so that the water would also be drinkable.

At the end of 2013, together with an American volunteer, we had collected enough money to have our own well drilled. The water is pumped up by means of a sturdy pump and will be stored in a water tank on a platform about three meters high. Due to the height, pressure is created to let the water flow through some pipes and thus also provide water in the two oldest houses. Since January 2014 we can open the taps for fresh water.

At the beginning of 2017, the water network was expanded with a second tank. This is located next to the boarding school building to provide the new, large sanitary room and the adjoining house with running water. We have deliberately made the platform on which this tank stands much higher in order to be able to meet all our future plans. The filling of this second tank is done by the existing pump of our well that was specially chosen to have enough power to fill several tanks.

A third water tank was provided during the construction of the volunteer house. This tank not only supplies the volunteer house but also provides the irrigation system in our plantation!
